چکیده
Abstract Background The frequency of dysphagia varies considerably across literature. Post-stroke is a common cause increased morbidity and length hospitalization. This study aimed to estimate the frequency, risk factors following first-ever ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke its neuroradiological correlation. Methods Two hundred fifty patients (180 70 strokes) with were recruited within 72 h onset. Detailed history, neurological examination, computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance done for each patient. Severity was evaluated by National Institutes Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Swallowing function assessed water swallowing test (WST) outcome severity scale (DOSS). Results Ninety-eight (39.2%) all had dysphagia, 57 (31.7%) group, 41 (58.6%) group. mean age group older than ages non-dysphagic total NIHSS higher in dysphagic both stroke. Dysphagia highly associated diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension (HTN), atrial fibrillation (AF). commonly middle cerebral artery (MCA), brainstem, capsular infarctions as well intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) ventricular extension. lesion size main determinant severity. Conclusions post-stroke consistent other studies. Advanced age, DM, HTN, AF factors. MCA, brain stem, infarctions, ICH extension frequently dysphagia. independent predictors
